Iola High’s defense booted the softball around too many times to win Monday’s single game against visiting Prairie View High’s Buffalos.
The Fillies lost 11-2 in varsity play at Riverside Park. They committed 11 errors in the seven-inning game.
Iola was behind 3-1 after the first inning. The Fillies scored when Lauren Toney and Holly Schomaker had back-to back singles and Libby Shay had a two-out single.
The Fillies produced their other run in the third, trailing 8-1. With two gone, Hannah Endicott connected for a base hit then Breail Thompson drew a walk. Shay doubled in a run.
Prairie View added a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth.
Breail Thompson was the losing pitcher, allowing seven hits and walking one. She struck out two. She also had the only other hit of the game for Iola in a leadoff single in the sixth.
Prairie View won the junior varsity game 20-1 in three innings. Shelby Reno was the losing pitcher.
Katie Shields doubled and Tessa Rowe singled.
The Fillies’ varsity is 2-5 overall.
Today Iola hosts Independence at Riverside Park in Southeast Kansas League play. First pitch is at 4:30.
The Fillies are 2-4 in SEK action.
The Fillies’ junior varsity will host Pittsburg on Friday at 4:30 p.m. in the park.
